Help me out with the poll below:

Clone Kayla Workshop with Hannah

hannahheadshotsblog01

Meet Hannah…up and coming photographer and one of my brides that I will be photographing later this month! I can not wait for her wedding! Hannah was the first photographer to do my Clone Kayla Workshop. She split her workshop into two days. The first day we talked about lighting, shooting manual, focus points, how to work with your subject, setting up your pricing, editing and workflow and we went out for a mini-shoot to practice. On her second day, she wanted to play with her studio lights, so we set them up in this working factory and had my good friend, Sarah come and model for us. We practiced with flash, indoor lighting, took some headshots for her and talked more about marketing her business. I also designed Hannah’s logo and collateral, which I posted here.

Here are some of my favorite shots from our factory shoot. If you are a photographer or designer that would like to stretch yourself and become better at marketing your business, check out my Clone Kayla Workshop! I’d love to spend the day with you!

Ask Me Anything

So, it has been awhile since my last Ask Kayla Q&A. I have been super busy lately, and haven’t had much to post, so I thought it would be fun to do another round! Leave me a comment on this post and ask me any question you want related to anything about me, design, photography or anything that I do and I will answer all the questions within a couple days. I’ll try to include pictures too so this will be a visual question and answer section! Or, if you don’t have a question, feel free to just leave a comment! I look forward to reading your questions! May 20, 2009 - 11:35 PM cristy cross - how do you get to be so cute :) ?

May 11, 2009 - 9:13 PM Janet Orr - Kayla, We have had sooo many wonderful comments about Stephanie's wedding invite, program, and cool monogram. We're always happy to point them in your direction. Truly, it was the prettiest invitation and program I've ever seen (tho I may be just a tiny bit prejudiced!) Thanks!!!

May 11, 2009 - 4:18 PM Jennifer - I enjoy taking pictures and have never delved into the SLR world. I am looking for a great quality camera without spending a ton as I take pictures just for fun. What would you recommend? I am hoping to teach myself how to use it the camera..

May 8, 2009 - 11:31 PM Sarah Hall - I second that on the jacket. Totally adorable! Great pic of you! Why do you keep your flash on camera? And why typically backwards with the card up and sometimes to the left?

May 8, 2009 - 4:06 PM Cari Hoffman - When I go on photo-shoots I sometimes go all over Lubbock with the person and it takes a long time to go shoot! Do you usually stay in the same spot or go everywhere around Midland? Also...when I burn a cd how do you put your awesome logo on it?! And one more question...where do you go to print off your photos/graduation cards? I love your photos Kayla and you are doing a wonderful job! Keep up the work!

May 8, 2009 - 8:06 AM Ash McSorley - My wife really liked your white jacket in that photo! You use Mac or PC? Canon or Nikon? Jpeg or RAW? Thanks!

May 8, 2009 - 6:53 AM April - Do you edit alot of your photos? If so what program do you use, and give us some of your favorite tips! Please...Thanks!!

Our Tour of Texas

April was crazy! So very busy! Out of the four weekends last month, three of them I was driving all over Texas and the weekend that we were home, we had my birthday, my brother-in-law’s birthday and Easter to celebrate. Add that to tax season, Clint’s finals and making an offer on a house, it was just insane! But it was very fun and we were so blessed to be able to go so many places and see some of our great friends.

I spent a total of 2,453 miles (or near 40 hours) riding in the car which is shown below in pink. For those of you that aren’t from Texas, this state is HUGE! It takes hours and hours to get anywhere. But there is some gorgeous countryside and I always love going somewhere new!

texas-tour

Weekend One: Headed to Fredericksburg with all the ladies on Clint’s side of the family. So fun to shop, eat amazing food and have fun with other women.

Weekend Two: Celebrated Matt’s birthday, then my birthday, witnessed a crazy hail storm that gave almost the whole town new roofs and enjoyed a wonderful Easter service that I helped conceptualize and design.

Weekend Three: Headed to the Dallas area for Clint and his band to play at UNT. They were rained out due to another crazy West Texas hail storm that came through. Got to see our great friends Kayla and Sean and Meghan. Went to the Fort Worth Art Festival and saw Jimmy Vaughn (Stevie Ray Vaughn’s brother) perform. Shopped at South Lake and went to church with Meghan.

Weekend Four: Headed to Austin and Kileen for Clint and his band to play at his cousin, David King’s Harvest Tour. Shopped at an awesome outlet mall and spent some time in Ikea. Enjoyed a beautiful, rainy drive back.

That pretty much sums up April. Next month, we will be traveling for two beautiful weddings which are shown in purple! Can’t wait.

May 5, 2009 - 6:44 PM Stacy - Bummer! I wish you had had some time to hang while you were in Austin - that would have been rad! :)

May 4, 2009 - 10:52 PM Wesley Leytham - I've seen Texas from a plane, and that's the best way if you want to do it quickly!
