Factory Photo Shoot Sneak Peek

Just a little sneak peek of what I did yesterday afternoon! Hannah had part 2 of her Clone Kayla workshop with me and as part of the workshop, we played around with some different indoor lighting to create some dramatic effects. My friend, Sarah came and modeled for us inside of this working factory. It was so cool and she totally rocked it! Check back soon to see more!

This Week at Spink {March 23-27}

Okay, two days late, but here it is. An update from the last week:

1. {FAMILY PHOTO SHOOT} Last Saturday, I photographed these totally adorable kids! Their mom drove them in from out of town and we had so much fun exploring some new places and taking their photos. The two boys are twins and SO very cute with the funniest personalities as you can probably tell! Sign their guest book by clicking below to see the rest of the photos when they go online. I’ll have more posted soon.

2. {GIFT FOR JESSIE} A month ago, Clint and I were in Las Vegas photographing Franki and Max’s amazing wedding at the Paris hotel! While we were there, we stayed with my good friend, Jessie, who is also a photographer. Jessie and I have been online friends since 2005 when we both received honorable mentions in Creating Keepsake’s Scrapbooking Hall of Fame. She was an amazing hostess showing us all kinds of awesome things about Las Vegas, took us to In-n-Out Burger (which is as good as I’ve always heard) and she also assisted me at the wedding on Saturday. We had so much fun with her and her family and they were so gracious to let us stay with them.

meforblog2So, as a special gift to Jessie, I had these custom magnets made with her logo and colors of her photography studio, Speckled Bird Art. After seeing her office and her whiteboard, I knew she definitely need them. You can order your own, from another of my friends, Danielle at Something Blue Studios.

I was also considering offering these as a product with photos from your session. Would anyone be interested?jessiegiftblog

3. {PAINTING} I went and bought some canvases this week at Micheal’s. They were 40% off and I have been feeling the itch to paint. If any of them turn out cute, I’ll definitely post some photos.

4. {COMMUNITY KIDS LOGO} Here is a logo I finalized this week for Community Life Church for their children’s department. It was really fun to work on this for them. It’s just one of the many projects I have been working on.

April 3, 2009 - 1:01 PM Meghan - Like my dad's church? That's cool, I didn't realize he was serious about that. :) Love you and it all looks great... am I going to get to see you in a few weekends?

March 31, 2009 - 4:16 PM Jennifer - I came across your website and your work is wonderful! Thanks for sharing the magnet information -- what a great gift idea!

Alli + Dylan: Engagement

allidylanengagmentblog02

How stinkin’ cute are these two? Alli and Dylan are so sweet together and I enjoyed getting to document their relationship during their engagement shoot. I just recently photographed Alli’s brother, Cameron’s wedding and I am so excited to be working with Alli and her family again. Alli and Dylan are getting married in July in the same church that Clint and I were married in! I can’t wait to shoot there. But until then, here are my favorites from their engagement shoot last week.

Beth + Cameron: Wedding Part 1

bethcameronsneakpeekblog02

A beautiful bride, gorgeous flowers and an amazing church are just a few words to describe Beth and Cameron’s beautiful wedding day. I was so blessed to be a part of their day and capture the happiness between them. Beth told me that she laughs when she is nervous. On this day, I think it totally worked in her favor because all of these photos of her giggling make me so happy. Here is the first set of my favorites.

bethcameronsneakpeekblog13Beth and Cameron decided to see each other before the wedding, which I recommend all my brides do. It is so much more relaxing and I can really capture your first reactions to seeing each other. We were also able to have more time for photos of the two of them as well as get ALL of the formal photos done before the ceremony which was great!

This Week at Spink {March 16-20}

So, I thought it would fun to have a weekly post…something that is consistent and that will be fun to read each week. Ya’ll will have to hold me accountable though! Every week, around Friday, I will post some weekly happenings here in my studio. I know some of you wonder what the heck I do all day, and this will give you a little sneak peek at what goes on at the studio of Spink and in my world.

Please feel free to leave me some feedback and let me know what you would like to see and learn!

1. Last weekend and early this week, Clint and I went and looked at two cute, old houses for sale. We’re not ready to buy anything, but it was fun to look and see what we like and don’t like. One of the houses was build in the 1920’s and the other in the 1940’s. They were both adorable and full of charm, but were small and had some quirky things that we weren’t crazy about. It will be awhile before we purchase a house I think.

2. I was so excited to go shoot Alli and Dylan’s engagement session this week! I am shooting their wedding in July which is going to be fabulous! Alli and I work together part-time at Mid-Cities Community Church. Here is a little sneak peek from their session. More coming soon!

3. I recently finished up the identity design for one of my brides and fellow photographers, Hannah. Check out her fabulous work by visiting her website: Hannah Katherine Photography. I wanted to design a logo that would portray her fun and fresh yet classy style. I used a h and a k and combined them to create a heart.
hannah-katherine-logohannah-katherine-business-card1

I also designed her business cards and her blog watermark. Isn’t this photo she took cute?

4. Last year I designed a logo and packaging for a card game called, Clubhouse Golf. It was a very fun project and something totally new for me. I really enjoyed it. I finally took some photos for the company and I wanted to share them with you.

The company is headed to a trade show next month, so this week I designed some trade show banners for them.

5. Guess what’s coming soon?!? I can’t wait to share it with you!

6. Those of you that know me well, know that I LOVE to read blogs. I love to be inspired by other artists and learn new things through other peoples’ blogs. I recently discovered that I subscribe to over 250 blogs in my Google Reader! Out of control! I think it is so important to stay in contact with the industry and see what changes are happening and make sure you are keeping up and expanding yourself.

Although I love to read so many blogs, I found myself fastly scrolling through and seeing what caught my eye. If you’re a blogger, you probably love getting comments like I do! It totally makes my day! I know that it takes anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours to prep and post a blog post, so it feels good when someone takes the time to leave a short comment.

So the past week or two, I decided to really stop and take the extra 5-10 seconds to post just a short comment on blog posts that really caught my eye and that I enjoyed. And you know what? I’ve actually benefited from it! I’ve become a little closer to other artists, I’ve gained a new client and I even won a $15 iTunes gift card. Gotta love that!

I’m not looking for extra comments, but just a challenge for you, take the time to leave a little comment on the blog posts you enjoy.

7. The BIG NEWS of the week it…..my sister-in-law, Kim is PREGNANT!!! YAY! It’s so crazy, but I am so happy for her and Matt. I can’t wait to hostess yet another shower and take some super cute maternity and baby photos!

That’s about it for this week. Check back next week for more!

March 23, 2009 - 3:34 PM Alli Phillips - Kayla! I blame you for getting me hooked onto blogs. You work is amazing! Can't wait to see the rest of our pictures! See you soon :-D

March 23, 2009 - 2:16 PM Sarah Hall - Btw... after seeing Hannah's logo design, I am SO jealous!!! I will be saving my pennies... ;o)

March 23, 2009 - 2:15 PM Sarah Hall - Well, I bet their shower will be awesome. You are the hostess with the mostess! Have you pondered being an event planner? I'm betting with your training in design you would rock at it.

March 23, 2009 - 1:06 PM Beverly - Love the picture with the cute redhead with the video camera. :)

March 20, 2009 - 1:39 PM Barb - yay, I get to be the first to comment! Great pics, and sounds like a fun week, Kayla. I wish my life was as fun as yours!

Deanna’s Baby Shower

If I wasn’t a graphic designer or a photographer, I think I would have to be an event planner. I love parties and I love all the little details that make them so special. It seems like I’ve thrown half a dozen showers in the last year (which I think I have) and this one was one of favorites! Of course it had to be super special for such an amazing person!

For Deanna’s shower, I suggested the theme of “Once a Upon a Time,” and suggested that everyone bring their favorite childhood storybook along with their gift. My friend, Kensey and I made this adorable diaper cake. It was our first one and we think it turned out pretty good! We liked the simplicity of it. We also decided to make these huge tissue paper pom-poms, Martha Stewart style. It was also our first time with these and although they took HOURS, I think the result was totally worth it. Thank you to Clint for taking the time to hang them all for us!

Yes, we even made sure the punch matched by making a pink lemonade punch with lime slices.

I also used the “wishing tree” that I had made for Kim’s bridal shower with little tags that matched the invitations.
